Commercial Composting Pick-Up in Houston
Scheduled commercial composting pick-up across Houston
OnFarmCompost runs scheduled commercial composting pick-up for Houston-area businesses that want to divert food waste without the smell, mess, or fruit flies. Our system is built around 55-gallon gasket-sealed drums that contain odor and pests, placed outside near your dumpster. Your kitchen and storage areas stay clean.
Built for Houston businesses
Our routes are designed for commercial generators that can keep organics separated at the source:
- Produce markets
- Supermarkets
- Grocers
- Produce operations
- Food producers
Material needs to arrive source-separated or depackaged. Loads mixed with packaging, cardboard, or trash aren’t accepted, since sorting on arrival isn’t a service we offer.
Whether you run a single location or coordinate several, we set a consistent weekly cadence that fits your volume.
How the pickup works
- Your kitchen keeps its own lined garbage can inside. Staff fill it with food scraps, tie the liner like a normal trash bag, and carry it out to the drum instead of the dumpster.
- The drum lives outside. Gasket-sealed drums hold food scraps by the dumpster without leaking odor.
- We exchange drums weekly. We haul the full drums, weigh them, and leave clean ones. A filled drum runs 100 to 200 pounds, so hauling and weighing is our job, not yours.
ESG-ready reporting
Every commercial account gets a monthly diversion report built for ESG and sustainability reporting. Because we weigh every drum, it covers your diversion tonnage, methane avoided, and contamination rate: the numbers that matter whether you’re reporting to leadership, a landlord, or a certification body.
Pricing
$10 per barrel. We start with a free waste audit, then a 1-week free trial, and there’s no contract. Commercial service is scoped to your volume and drum count, so we’ll put together a quote that matches your operation.
What your team can compost
We accept vegetative food waste: produce culls, trim, and overripe or unsold fruit and vegetables, coffee grounds, eggshells, and depackaged bulk dry goods such as flour and grain. Composting happens on working farms rather than at a permitted facility, and a vegetative feedstock is what lets those farms take material without changing their regulatory footing. We keep out meat, bones, dairy, and post-service plate scrapings, along with grease of every kind, paper of any kind including napkins and coffee filters, and plastics of any kind, including anything labeled “compostable.”
Why Houston businesses switch
Keeping food waste out of the dumpster cuts odors, reduces pest pressure, and shrinks your trash volume. The waste goes straight to local farms, where it’s sheet-composted on the land it will feed. With monthly diversion reporting already built in, the same program that lightens your waste stream gives you the ESG numbers to prove it.

Related Questions
What size containers do you use for businesses?
Commercial accounts use 55-gallon food-grade plastic drums with gasket-sealed lids that contain odor and pests. Drums sit outside near your dumpster or another outside spot. Drum count is scoped to your volume. Contact us and we'll recommend the right setup.
How often do you pick up?
Weekly, on a set route day you can plan around. Weekly is mandatory: even gasket-sealed, food waste gets too ripe to sit longer than a week.
Do you provide diversion reporting?
Yes. We weigh every drum we haul, and commercial accounts receive a monthly ESG-ready report covering diversion tonnage, methane avoided, and contamination rate.
